Shareholder Demands Justice in Cambodia Amid Alleged Multi-Million-Dollar Fraud
(Phnom Penh) — A shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, seeking intervention in a high-profile case involving the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei. The appeals allege that Yamada, a Japanese national, misused his position for personal gain, causing significant financial losses to investors.
According to the claims, Yamada allegedly manipulated real estate purchase prices and diverted approximately USD 4 million for himself and his associates. He is also accused of creating fake business transactions and loans exceeding USD 7 million, forging documents, and using the names of major corporations to deceive shareholders.
Investigators indicate that part of the misappropriated funds may have been transferred abroad to accounts under the name of Yamada’s spouse. It is also reported that he controlled numerous shell companies in Cambodia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia, appointing front individuals to act as representatives while retaining complete control over finances.
In Cambodia, Yamada and his associates are facing at least two criminal cases, with multiple assets and bank accounts frozen by court orders. Authorities in other countries, including China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the United States, are reportedly investigating related financial crimes, including embezzlement, money laundering, and fraud.
The shareholder’s appeal calls on Cambodian authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, ensure justice is served, and prevent potential interference by influential parties that could obstruct the case or intimidate witnesses.
