Timeless pieces have a place in every woman’s wardrobe, especially those of us inching our way up in age! The older I get, the more I really try to be more intentional about the items I buy. And though I do love a good trend, my goal is to put my investment more into classic looks that will work from season to season and last for years without looking dated. I’ve put together a list of some pieces I think are timeless staples, and I’ve tried to include a variety of price points because classy looks can be found in any budget!
Call off the search…the hunt is over!! I know it’s a bold statement, but I do believe I just may have found the mother of all denim! I’ve always been a fan of flares and bootcut jeans with a lived-in wash, so when perusing new denim in stores or online, this is usually my starting point. I just don’t think you can beat the silhouette and lengthening effect a good flare provides, and with the slightly higher waist and great fading, this pair by Mother provides a timeless denim staple to any closet. You can read my tips for ensuring a great fit for flares here. Length is everything when it comes to flared or bootcut jeans, and as you can see, the hemline of this pair falls to just slightly above the ground with heels. This is only the second pair of Mother jeans I have tried, and the first pair was too short for me. So make sure you know your inseam, and if you’re are on the petite side, don’t be afraid to invest in the services of a good tailor. It can make the world of difference!
I took these pictures with one of my favorite fashion photogs, Justin James, a few months ago. I adore everything about this outfit, but I haven’t posted it here yet because I was waiting for the right time…a relevant fashion moment I suppose. I feel like most fashion blog posts are driven by the weather or holidays and events, and this outfit is really just for fun! I decided that most everyone will be dealing with a case of the Mondays as we approach Thanksgiving break, so I figure now is as good a time as any to post about something that is just for fun, no?!
I know crop tops give most anyone over 25 a slight wave of anxiety, and I am no exception. First of all, baring your whole belly is not very ladylike, and more importantly, who has that kind of time to dedicate to the requisite ab work? The solution is simple: pair your crop with a high waisted bottom and keep the details ladylike and the belly button covered. Truth be told, the belly button should never be seen in public outside of the beach or pool scene unless you’re performing in Vegas…and even then, your name better start with Britney!
A pencil skirt always fits the bill for ladylike, and it is a staple in my closet for those days I am practicing law (a little bit more lately!!), Sunday church services, and really any event where I want a classic, pulled together look. The one I’m wearing is the black version of this Derek Lam skirt. If you want to go slightly edgier, the zipper detail on this 5th & Mercer option is so good.
Crop tops are a dime a dozen these days, but before you pull the trigger, make sure you’re choosing a top that is well made and otherwise modest. The last thing you want is a plunging neckline, spaghetti straps, AND a bare belly! The pretty lace, long sleeves, and high neck of this Asilio crop keep it feminine and flirty without crossing into “too much skin” territory! I linked a few other options I’m currently crushing on below.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Just don’t consider this look for your Turkey Day festivities; drawstring waist pants are a much better choice for pumpkin pie!

Lace Top: Asilio (similar looks by Asilio and Saylor, and this version by Stone Cold Fox is pretty too) | Skirt: Derek Lam (Black no longer available. I also love this Black Halo option, and the zipper detail on this 5th & Mercer skirt is so fun!) | Bag: Chanel (similar and less expensive option by Rebecca Minkoff) | Cage booties: Zara (these are old, but there are several similar and super cute options by Sam Edelman, Schutz, and Vince Camuto) | Earrings: Impressions of Santa Fe
There’s nothing like a good go-to outfit that you know you can accessorize to fit the occasion…and your mood! Jeans almost always fit into this category, and you can never go wrong with a simple tank. I love dressing up a distressed pair of jeans, and the best way to start is with a great pair of heels. My summer shoe of choice for evening has been this Sam Edelman wedge. The color goes with everything, and the height gives any outfit an extra oomph!
With a basic white top, necklaces are the perfect foil to show your personal style. This feathered bib necklace is sold out, but I have linked several similar pieces below. With a cute clutch, this outfit is perfect for date night!

The style of this French Connection dress is “California Dreaming.” I may be a Texas girl through and through, but I sure love spending time in Southern California. The ubiquitous sunshine and mild Pacific temps are good for the soul, and I am always inspired by the ever-stylish SoCal girls with their beachy waves and polished bohemian vibe — I’m looking at you, Gwen Stefani and Jessica Alba!
I bought this dress last summer for a beach trip. We decided to have family photos taken while on vacation, and this dress fit the bill perfectly. I loved it so much, and when summer was over, I really missed it! I was determined to figure out a way to continue wearing it in the cooler months without looking like a complete fashion failure. A quick closet search revealed a no-brainer solution. By pairing it with my go-to black blazer and a favorite pair of cage booties, I was able to tone down the seaside vibe of the dress and make it a year-round wardrobe staple! I have also worn it with my black leather jacket for a slightly edgier look that I also love.
The beading on this dress is stunning, but the silhouette is relaxed enough that it can work for day or night, depending on how it is styled. Even though I got this last summer, it is somehow still available and at a greatly reduced price! There are so many similar options that will be super fun for summer and music festival season — or with a favorite moto jacket or blazer year round!
