I adore the look of a cozy sweater when the weather is chilly. Unfortunately for me (and my bank account), I am super sensitive to most sweaters, and cashmere seems to be the only thing I can wear without needing to take twenty-seven Benadryls! Cashmere tends to be pricier and slightly more high maintenance than regular wool or cotton sweaters, solidly placing it in the splurge category. Luckily, as winter is winding down, this time of year is perfect to shop for these timeless sweaters. Most are on sale, and as long as you stick with basic solids or traditional stripes or prints, you can get years of wear out of them. I’ve linked to several great cashmere sweaters below, all of which are ON SALE (!!), priced under $200 (including a fabulous one under $50), and feature timeless silhouettes and colors. This Vince crewneck I’m wearing is 40% off with both free shipping and free returns.
Timeless pieces have a place in every woman’s wardrobe, especially those of us inching our way up in age! The older I get, the more I really try to be more intentional about the items I buy. And though I do love a good trend, my goal is to put my investment more into classic looks that will work from season to season and last for years without looking dated. I’ve put together a list of some pieces I think are timeless staples, and I’ve tried to include a variety of price points because classy looks can be found in any budget!
It’s fall, y’all! This transitional weather is the perfect time to experiment with contrasting textures. I love the sweet, feminine lace of this alice + olivia top paired with the slightly edgier pleated leather skirt and calf hair leopard bag. The short sleeves and knee length skirt are perfect for the never ending Houston heat, but the colors and textures scream autumn!
After taking most of the summer off from blogging, I am back! The hiatus was nice but it feels good to be productive again. I minimized the summer camps, and my kids and I spent a lot of time together. A lot! At ages 4 and 7, their favorite activity is relentlessly aggravating each other ALL DAY LONG, so I can’t say I was all that disappointed when school rolled back around! We had fun though, and my youngest can now swim….it’s HUGE to be at the point where I can at least sort of relax poolside. Other summer milestones included a lost front tooth, mastering the perfect front flip into the pool, and surviving a roughly 2,000 mile (round trip) family road trip to Aspen. Although we’ve been back to school for a month now, I feel like we’re still getting into the routine. My daughter missed three days of school this week due to pneumonia, and it has just really thrown us all off our schedule! She’s feeling much better, though, and I’m banking on next week being THE week it all falls into place…..I mean, that’s a real thing, right?? #wishfulthinking
Call off the search…the hunt is over!! I know it’s a bold statement, but I do believe I just may have found the mother of all denim! I’ve always been a fan of flares and bootcut jeans with a lived-in wash, so when perusing new denim in stores or online, this is usually my starting point. I just don’t think you can beat the silhouette and lengthening effect a good flare provides, and with the slightly higher waist and great fading, this pair by Mother provides a timeless denim staple to any closet. You can read my tips for ensuring a great fit for flares here. Length is everything when it comes to flared or bootcut jeans, and as you can see, the hemline of this pair falls to just slightly above the ground with heels. This is only the second pair of Mother jeans I have tried, and the first pair was too short for me. So make sure you know your inseam, and if you’re are on the petite side, don’t be afraid to invest in the services of a good tailor. It can make the world of difference!
