Spring in Texas can be confusing…85 degrees the day before school let out for spring break and down in the 40s once the kids were out! So aggravating! But the one thing we can always count on is rain. I have a severe aversion to the air conditioning settings most places utilize on a good day, but when I’m wet from rain and have to be indoors, I can get chilled to the bone. I’ve learned to just cover up. No matter what season we’re in or what the thermometer reads, I need my arms, legs, and toes covered when it rains! This is the perfect outfit for a day like today!
If ever anyone needed to choose an outfit for my caricature to depict what I truly love to wear, I’m positive well-fitting jeans and an embroidered top would be a safe choice. I just can’t turn down pretty embroidery! This top is by Tularosa, which has become one of my favorite lines for their lovely designs and approachable price point. (You can find another favorite Tularosa piece in this blog post.) I ordered this top online, and it came in just in time for my trip out west. A Palm Springs family wedding with my daughter serving as flower girl called for early arrival and a few days at Disneyland of course, but after checking out flights, we decided the best bet was to fly into Orange County and spend the day at the beach (natch) before heading to Anaheim. I like to wear jeans on planes to stave off the freezing air and disguise any spills my children inevitably cause, so topping my outfit with my Levi’s denim jacket was a no brainer. Once we arrived at the John Wayne Airport (honestly THE BEST airport ever if you’re heading to SoCal), I quickly changed into cutoffs, and this top served perfectly as a chic cover-up en route to Laguna Beach’s stunning Crescent Bay. This picturesque cove was the perfect playground for the kids, and I had a chance to read my book without interruption and execute some serious people watching behind my sunnies!
Denim is always a go to for me, especially a soft chambray…perfect for the impending summer heat! I found this cute little shirtdress while shopping recently at Splendid, and something about it just screamed PERFECT SUMMER STAPLE! It is one of those dresses you can wear three times in one week and not even feel bad about it! Plus, with the simple cut and neutral color, you can change it up with accessories each time you wear it. I’m certainly loving this Splendid sleeveless version, but I linked to several others below in varying fits and shades of chambray. I especially love this long sleeved option by KUT from the Kloth. Slightly more tailored, it could be a great way to embrace casual Friday during the dog days of summer when jean sounds about as fun as fur boots. I’m also feeling the ombrè effect of this AG Jeans dress.
Let me just start with….this Mirth Caftan is EVERYTHING!!! I recently discovered this inspired caftan line, created by two adorable Houston sisters (LOVE that!), while reading last month’s PaperCity issue. I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to check out these beautiful dresses. The next morning, I was introduced to one of these fabulous sisters as we worked out next to each other at DEFINE. That was enough coincidence for me…I headed to Brooke Feather as soon as the line was available, and the rest is history!
Spring is here (at least for now), and I, for one, am starting to feel that very real itch of spring fever! In just a few short weeks, my azaleas and wisteria will begin blooming, and nothing makes me happier than a beautiful and fragrant yard. Except maybe a bright spring frock like this fun cropped floral Intermix top! I rarely wear such bold prints, but the tiered, flared sleeves had me at hello. I mean…..???
