Call off the search…the hunt is over!! I know it’s a bold statement, but I do believe I just may have found the mother of all denim! I’ve always been a fan of flares and bootcut jeans with a lived-in wash, so when perusing new denim in stores or online, this is usually my starting point. I just don’t think you can beat the silhouette and lengthening effect a good flare provides, and with the slightly higher waist and great fading, this pair by Mother provides a timeless denim staple to any closet. You can read my tips for ensuring a great fit for flares here. Length is everything when it comes to flared or bootcut jeans, and as you can see, the hemline of this pair falls to just slightly above the ground with heels. This is only the second pair of Mother jeans I have tried, and the first pair was too short for me. So make sure you know your inseam, and if you’re are on the petite side, don’t be afraid to invest in the services of a good tailor. It can make the world of difference!
Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old, he will not depart from it. — Proverbs 22:6.
Happy Father’s Day to all of those wonderful guys “training up” our littles! To show our appreciation, we have put together a fun gift guide to provide some ideas for tokens of your love to your fave dads!
Summer appears to be here, and I personally think there’s no better excuse to be playful with our fashion! Crops have been all over for the past year or so, and we’ve all figured out that pairing them with high-waisted skirts or pants allows us to rock this trend while saving us from going full 90s-style midriff exposure. In keeping with the free-spirited nature of summertime fun, I decided to try something different. I pulled out my comfy overalls, usually reserved for mom duty and errand running, and paired them with a sexy pair of strappy evening heels and this chic Asilio crop top for a playground-inspired going out look. It is such a no brainer, I really can’t believe I haven’t thought of it before! The front panel conceals your tummy (to avoid humiliating your children), while allowing a tiny peek of skin on the sides. The lace and heels class it up a bit, and this ADORABLE embroidered jute clutch by Moyna not only provides the color pop, but also helps bridge the gap between playful and sophisticated. Now I just need to work on my summer playlist!
Overalls: Similar by Black Orchid and Cheap Monday | Lace top: Asilio black version (similar by Missguided, Forever 21, Nanette Lapore, and Bardot) | Clutch: Moyna, also in plum velvet (similar by Star Mela, Moyna, Mar Y Sol, and Kelly Fields | Sandals: Stuart Weitzman (affordable option by Steve Madden)
If ever anyone needed to choose an outfit for my caricature to depict what I truly love to wear, I’m positive well-fitting jeans and an embroidered top would be a safe choice. I just can’t turn down pretty embroidery! This top is by Tularosa, which has become one of my favorite lines for their lovely designs and approachable price point. (You can find another favorite Tularosa piece in this blog post.) I ordered this top online, and it came in just in time for my trip out west. A Palm Springs family wedding with my daughter serving as flower girl called for early arrival and a few days at Disneyland of course, but after checking out flights, we decided the best bet was to fly into Orange County and spend the day at the beach (natch) before heading to Anaheim. I like to wear jeans on planes to stave off the freezing air and disguise any spills my children inevitably cause, so topping my outfit with my Levi’s denim jacket was a no brainer. Once we arrived at the John Wayne Airport (honestly THE BEST airport ever if you’re heading to SoCal), I quickly changed into cutoffs, and this top served perfectly as a chic cover-up en route to Laguna Beach’s stunning Crescent Bay. This picturesque cove was the perfect playground for the kids, and I had a chance to read my book without interruption and execute some serious people watching behind my sunnies!
Denim is always a go to for me, especially a soft chambray…perfect for the impending summer heat! I found this cute little shirtdress while shopping recently at Splendid, and something about it just screamed PERFECT SUMMER STAPLE! It is one of those dresses you can wear three times in one week and not even feel bad about it! Plus, with the simple cut and neutral color, you can change it up with accessories each time you wear it. I’m certainly loving this Splendid sleeveless version, but I linked to several others below in varying fits and shades of chambray. I especially love this long sleeved option by KUT from the Kloth. Slightly more tailored, it could be a great way to embrace casual Friday during the dog days of summer when jean sounds about as fun as fur boots. I’m also feeling the ombrè effect of this AG Jeans dress.
