Spring in Texas can be confusing…85 degrees the day before school let out for spring break and down in the 40s once the kids were out! So aggravating! But the one thing we can always count on is rain. I have a severe aversion to the air conditioning settings most places utilize on a good day, but when I’m wet from rain and have to be indoors, I can get chilled to the bone. I’ve learned to just cover up. No matter what season we’re in or what the thermometer reads, I need my arms, legs, and toes covered when it rains! This is the perfect outfit for a day like today!
The bow blouse has been around since at least the days of Coco Chanel. Dubbed the “pussy bow,” this look no doubt drew inspiration from men’s neckties, providing women with a prettier and more ladylike version of the menswear office staple accessory. Not to mention giving the ladies another option for neck bling aside from necklaces! These tie neck tops became ubiquitous with the 80s ladies — Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin certainly took full advantage of this look while outsnakin’ Moramax and doing their best to save Jupiter Hollow from strip mining in “Big Business.” Although it never really went away, the pussy bow has made a pretty big resurgence in the past few years, and I couldn’t love it more! (As evidenced here.) What I love about this WAYF tie neck dress is that it offers the ladylike look of the classic style while also giving it a modern edge with the cut of the dress and the black lace tie. It feels a little “Working Girl” meets “Reality Bites”/”Singles,” no?
This year for Thanksgiving, my husband and I decided to take our kids on a trip because our summer got away from us and we never got away from it! Our destination was St. Barth, the loveliest island in the Caribbean and our most favorite place in the world. We have been to St. Barth several times, starting with our honeymoon eight years ago, and our kids have joined us twice. Despite its reputation for glitz and glam, the island is actually super laid back and chill, and it is the perfect playground for children and adults alike.
Of course for any trip, I am always checking the trends and hoping to add something new and fun to my wardrobe. It can be challenging, though, to vacation out of season. Thankfully, many designers now offer resort collections, and a selection of beachwear can be found year round if you know where to look. Revolve Clothing is one of my favorite go-to online sites, and it is where I began and ended my search for the perfect beachy dress. This Grecian-inspired silk wrap dress by Anine Bing is perfect for dinner at Maya’s and cocktails at Le Ti (and table dancing if you’re so inclined!), and it also fits the bill for a breezy cover up on the beach. Anine Bing is a designer I have had my eye on for a few seasons now, and I have to say, the girl can do no wrong. Her collections scream “cool girl,” and every piece is thoughtful and unique, from her luxe moto jackets to her edgy studded booties. I have crushed on many of her dresses, but this was my first purchase. Love, love, love! And it’s on sale now, to boot!
In case you are planning a fab holiday vacay in a tropical locale, I have linked this dress and a few other resortwear pieces I am loving currently. Happy travels!
