As an Aries, red is considered my fiery color (we are ruled by Mars, the red planet after all!). However, while I love the color, I rarely wear it, but when I do, I feel unstoppable. People take notice of the color and it stands out in a crowd. Red also runs the gamut of emotions. It can be used to express anger or to show love. And whose face hasn’t been red with embarrassment on an occasion or two? I recall my younger days of practicing law and a certain red suit jacket that I would wear to court. It made me feel powerful in a sea of male attorneys (usually in the requisite attorney uniform of navy suits and red ties). While I don’t need clothes to do that for me now, I still enjoy seeing that pop of red from time to time.
This Diane von Furstenberg caftan-inspired mini dress is just simply fun. It’s loose and hits high enough to not wear to work, but low enough to keep it appropriate for just about anywhere else. The pockets are a plus and deep enough to stash your phone, keys or lip gloss. Due to the chill in the air, I wore a light, mock turtleneck with DVF’s creation, but I can see it without anything underneath and beautiful, long gold necklaces as accent pieces. While the quintessential DVF wrap dress has always been a favorite of mine, I love the simplicity and comfort of this flowy design. This dress can also be date night ready, car pool crushing or girls weekend at the winery. Can’t you hear Chris de Burgh’s “Lady in Red” playing in the background (“dancing with me, cheek to cheek…”)?
These kicks are just about one of my favorite pair of booties. The monochromatic wedge and the ink black suede give them a sophisticated look. They hit right above the ankle and are super comfortable. I’ve been able to wear these with so many different styles and they still look fabulous. I truly am hard on my shoes and these have held up so nicely. The funky shape gives them an edge that keeps them from looking too dressy when I want to be low key. While the dress would have paired nicely with nude knee boots, I love the city vibe of these booties with a shift dress. Another chic look for warmer weather would be gladiator sandals in gold or black. Those would add an element of sexy that will certainly get you noticed. This Elaine Turner cross body is all rock and roll. Studs, python, black leather – the trifecta of rock. The sleek bag is on trend and can go from casual to upscale in 4 to 5 seconds. While the outside is slim, the inside is roomy enough to hold all the essentials – wallet, keys, Madonna tickets. I also LOVE that the inside is red. Such a fun pop of color. Evoking passion or power, DVF hit the nail on the head with this bright design.
