After taking most of the summer off from blogging, I am back! The hiatus was nice but it feels good to be productive again. I minimized the summer camps, and my kids and I spent a lot of time together. A lot! At ages 4 and 7, their favorite activity is relentlessly aggravating each other ALL DAY LONG, so I can’t say I was all that disappointed when school rolled back around! We had fun though, and my youngest can now swim….it’s HUGE to be at the point where I can at least sort of relax poolside. Other summer milestones included a lost front tooth, mastering the perfect front flip into the pool, and surviving a roughly 2,000 mile (round trip) family road trip to Aspen. Although we’ve been back to school for a month now, I feel like we’re still getting into the routine. My daughter missed three days of school this week due to pneumonia, and it has just really thrown us all off our schedule! She’s feeling much better, though, and I’m banking on next week being THE week it all falls into place…..I mean, that’s a real thing, right?? #wishfulthinking
With yesterday marking the official first day of fall, and Houston of course refusing to cooperate, the typical fashion dilemma for this time of year is to find pieces that can transition with the weather. Tie neck dresses have become such a thing, throwing it back to the oh so stylish 80s corporate secretaries. (You know they slipped on their Reeboks with their cute biz cazh dresses to walk four blocks to lunch!) This shirtdress version is from one of my favorites, Tularosa. (See more looks from this label here and here.) I adore the simple design, and though I wore it with my Lowland boots, I think black tights and oxfords will be cute when we get out of triple digit temps! I styled it with this fun leopard crossbody to add a little interest to the black and white palette, but jewelry is really not necessary with the high neck and long sleeves. What an easy look for this fall season!
