Here are a few more of our favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Happy shopping!!
The dog days of summer often bring a frenzy of one type or another, from triple digit temps to fun summer concert series. But among us girls, not much brings the excitement of the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! This sale is unique in that the items aren’t the castoffs of last season, reduced because no one wanted them. No, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale boasts current, of-the-moment, in-season (or upcoming season) styles reduced for a limited time only. The prices of these sale items will go back up on Monday, August 3, hence the frenzy! Because many of the sale items are warm and fuzzy, it is sometimes hard to get into fall fashion shopping mode, but just blast up the a/c and let the cash savings be your motivator! We have combed through all of the offerings, and these are some of our favorite picks. You’ll notice lots of outerwear and boots because this is really a great way to pick up a nice splurge item for less that will be completely on-trend when the weather finally changes. Here are some of our faves. Stay tuned for Part II. 🙂
We love supporting local shops and designers — the individualized attention you get from a local retailer cannot be matched. Houston has its fair share of trendy and unique boutiques, and Raspberry Rose is one of our faves. Located in Rice Village, Raspberry Rose has outfitted women for well over 30 years. Walk inside more than once and expect to be greeted by name — they treat everyone like family! The current owner, Carrie Schwartzenburg, literally grew up in the boutique playing amongst the racks of clothing and, in the process, learned the business from her mother, Maureen Sweeney. Maureen, who founded RR, moved the store from Bellaire to the current location in 1983, and Carrie took over when her mother was ready to retire. The staff, playfully called “the Rose girls,” has created a relaxed shopping and browsing haven. These ladies are always on the ready to assist with on-trend looks, accessorizing, and, yes, even letting you know when a piece is not quite “you.” That is the kind of personal shopping experience you cannot get from larger department stores or online. The staff at RR gets to know you, your personality, and your style. The clothing selection is well curated and has a little something for everyone. While in the shop, we have seen teenagers and older ladies alike shopping the boutique. You’ll find designs that are work ready, party perfect, or casual Friday and many looks in between. Do not be surprised to find pieces by famous designers paired with items from local Houston artisans. Carrie and her team love to support local designers and many of those collaborations can be found in RR. Here are a few of our favorite looks we found at Raspberry Rose:
This dress caught our eye right away…so comfy and so versatile. The color is what stands out. Typically, a little black dress to head out for cocktails would be sufficient, but in a sea of cute black ensembles, we’d rather drink to this olive-toned v-neck. The color is subtle but noticeable and paired with a fun calf hair leopard wedge, this dress gives off just the right vibe. The clutch is a special edition handbag created by Elaine Turner (another Rice Village must-shop!) exclusively for Heroes and Handbags, with proceeds going to the charity Heroes For Children, and it compliments the outfit perfectly. Around her neck, Chastiti chose a gorgeous cross necklace by Houston designer Rebecca Lankford and a long pendant by Sonya Renée and added wrap bracelets by Chan Luu. While Chastiti went with a more evening look with this Allen Allen creation, the dress can also take you to a business meeting with pumps and a blazer!
This sequined top by Tart is perfect for a night out with the girls. The distressed denim tones down the flash of the top, making it a more accessible look, and the nude accessories keep the focus on this fab piece! The jeans are some of the most comfortable around. We adore Joe’s jeans and can’t get enough of this totally worn look. A fun fringed clutch throws in a little boho, and the Monica Haff necklace (another local designer) and ring by Virgin Saints and Angels complete the look. It is amazing to see firsthand how RR promotes local designers. The store stocks some of the most creative and unique accessories we have seen!
Being a super busy, crazy-scheduled mom of three and managing partner of a busy law firm, Chastiti is always looking for clothes that are polished enough to wear to the office on non-court days, but easy enough to transition to her regular life. This Bella Dahl dress should be a staple in every woman’s closet. It is hands down the most comfortable shirt dress around. The fabric feels like your favorite sheets, but the dress stays crisp throughout the day. Chastiti paired it with fun weekend or girls night out accessories, but again, you could easily pair this soft gray dress with patent wedges, multi-strand pearls and be office ready in minutes. The pop of hot pink of the Betty James-designed beaded necklace catches the eye and livens up the softness of the fabric. Throwing in a little turquoise in both the bracelets and earrings, also Betty James creations, and the beaded clutch gives this look an unexpected twist. With Fall in the not too distant future (yes, we know, it’s 100 degrees in the shade right now) this must-have dress would be very chic with black suede booties or patterned tights for a football game or casual date night.
This Grecian-style halter dress is SUCH a beauty, but the best part of this Bailey 44 dress is the super soft, draped fabric. This navy summer sundress has such a bold look, and the differing lengths give it an edge, but you will want to wear it everywhere because it is so comfortable! Chandra paired the dress with gold gladiator sandals, but strappy metallic heels would look amazing as well. This dress is perfect for summer evening pool parties, outdoor weddings, or cocktail fetes. Dress up or down, and with the right accessories, you could utilize this dress year round. And of course this Elaine Turner clutch can pull any outfit together. Manager of RR, Haley, helped choose accessories, and the gold leaf-shaped earrings by Nashelle and the handmade cuff by Taylor & Tessier (Aspen-based designers) were the perfect touch to this look. Interesting fact: Haley has her own line of custom earrings called Haley E. Designs, which can also be found at RR, so she has an amazing eye for accessorizing — another reason to shop local!
Raspberry Rose is not just another boutique. The Rose girls have created one of those stores where you want to meet up with your sister or your girlfriends and shop before lunch or drinks. You want to hang out in the dressing rooms and swap ideas. This is the place to find unique clothing and jewelry and to catch up on much needed girl time. We had such a fun time with these ladies and loved getting to play dress up at the store. Not many places in Houston can boast service to over three generations of women, but Raspberry Rose can. The proof is not only in the pictorial collection of the storied history of the boutique gracing RR walls, but also in the clientele who can remember coming to the store with their mothers and now their daughters. What a rare and special place in a city this large to have generations of women still finding common ground in fashion!
All clothing and jewelry is available locally at the fabulous Raspberry Rose boutique in Rice Village. As a special treat for our followers, Raspberry Rose will give you a 10% discount on your purchase until August 8, 2015. Just mention In the Loop Style to receive this great offer! Don’t forget to sign up for the RR newsletter and special promotions on the RR website.
Need some ideas for the special men in your life for Father’s Day? Here are some things on our husbands’ wish lists!
//ONE// If your husband is anything like mine, he really loves wearing mesh-vented, button-down fishing shirts…maybe a little too often! The Harbor Shirt by Vineyard Vines fits the bill but adds a little style to the usually drab (in my opinion!) performance shirt! With its moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabric and vented, mesh-lined back, your favorite dad will look great while playing hard, onshore or off.
//TWO// For the bookworm in your life, The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown will be a real treat. Although it reads like a novel, this is the true story of an eight-man rowing team overcoming every obstacle the Depression-era Olympic road placed in front of them to eventually capture gold in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This is a story about finding hope, and it is a page-turner for any sports fan!
//THREE// Well built and beautifully rugged, Filson duffle bags make a perfect gift for any guy. I bought one for my husband several years ago, and it has gone with us on every weekend trip since. It comes with a lifetime warranty, but I doubt you’ll need it — they are seemingly indestructible! And why not buy something for him that you can use too!
//FOUR// If your favorite dad is in need of some new kicks and you’d really like to get him out of the frat boy gray New Balance rut he has been in since the late 90s, these Onitsuka Tiger Asics for J. Crew just may be the answer. They are a little sleeker and more modern but still hold on to that gray monochrome, retro vibe. Tell him all the cool dads are doing it!
//FIVE// For the man who has everything, consider the gift of pampered luxury. The Boardroom Salon for Men offers classic straight razor shaves, complete with steamed towels and a light facial massage. The clubby atmosphere ensures that he will feel totally at ease.
//SIX// We are really loving all of Tom Ford’s Private Blend fragrances right now. This collection comes with six mini decanters of his best sellers, including my personal favorite Neroli Portofino (I wear it myself!) and the ever popular Tobacco Vanilla, as well as Noir de Noir, Oud Wood, Jasmin Rouge, and Tuscan Leather. There may be no real bits of panther in these scents, but he will smell foxy nonetheless!
//SEVEN// Django and Jimmie is Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard’s latest collaboration. There’s really not much else to say, now is there??! For any real Texan and for all music lovers, this CD is a must-have. It will make a perfect Father’s Day surprise!
//EIGHT// The Yeti Rambler Tumbler is one of the rare products that really does live up to its hype! I’ve heard tales of coffee staying hot all the way out to the rigs on an offshore trip and stories of sweet tea with ice intact after a day of shopping. I have gifted multiple family members with the Rambler, and each and every one of them has given it the highest of praises. My husband told me this is the only gift he wants for Father’s Day. At such a wonderful price point, it really makes shopping for dads a breeze! Bering’s has a great selection in the lawn and garden department.
//NINE// What says “I love you” more than a custom, hand-crafted, made-in-Texas longbow? Sarrels Archery has you covered if hunting is his thing. This Austin area family has been crafting bows for almost three decades. Their motto is “life’s too short to shoot with an ugly bow!” These artisans handcraft each and every bow from start to finish, even hand painting the serial number with a calligraphy pen!
//TEN// Perhaps your dad is a hunter but prefers shooting birds. This King Ranch Saddle Shop shooting bag is constructed with a large center pocket for holding game and two smaller pockets for shells and supplies. As with everything King Ranch, the quality is superb, and the comfortable design makes it a must-have for any great bird hunter!
//ELEVEN// A true Southern gentleman loves his bourbon, no doubt, but sweltering summers in Texas call for a slightly more refreshing cocktail. The Moscow Mule has become ubiquitous in recent years and for good reason. The vodka of course gives it a great kick, but the lime juice and ginger beer combo hit all the right flavor hot spots! And of course no Mule is complete without a copper mug. This set can be personalized, and he will be the envy of all his friends!
//TWELVE// MORE YETI! The Yeti Hopper is the soft-sided version of every man’s favorite cooler. The beauty is that you get the same icy quality Yeti is known for but in a more easily transported, lightweight frame. This bag cooler is great for outdoor concerts or festivals or your upcoming tubing trip on the Guadalupe!
//THIRTEEN// Featuring a built-in touch display, this newest version of the GoPro, the Hero4, takes every guy’s favorite toy up an extra notch. This compact HD-quality video camera is waterproof, lightweight, and can be mounted on everything from Jeeps and bikes to sports helmets and surfboards. Perfect for the adventurer dad in your family!
//FOURTEEN// To add a little fun (and Texas pride) to your favorite dad’s wardrobe, look no further than Paris Texas Apparel. Their whimsical ties feature all things Texas, from redfish and armadillos to “Come and Take It” cannons and oil derricks. The small-scale of the kitchy patterns ensures that anyone wearing these ties will look cool and on-trend. And supporting a great Texas company is always a bonus!
We hope you and your daddies have the most wonderful Father’s Day! And we hope this gift guide gives you some ideas for making the dads in your lives feel extra special next weekend!
This morning, Chastiti and I were fortunate enough to get our hands on some of the fabulous products from India Hicks’s brand new beauty and accessories line. A mutual friend recently introduced us to the stunning and stylish Katie Jernigan, who is an ambassador for the brand, and together, we hosted a style party for some of our friends at Chastiti’s home. This line launched only a few months ago, so it was our first time to see the products up close and personal. Just as expected, everything was absolutely exquisite! I also got a peek of her newly-released coffee table book, India Hicks: Island Style. It is full of colorful, inspiring images of her island home, and it would make a lovely addition to any book collection!
If you are unfamiliar with this beautiful Brit, India Hicks is the London-reared goddaughter of Prince Charles who famously donned one of the 80s-fab poufy bridesmaid dresses to serve alongside Princess Diana as a bridesmaid in the Wedding of the Century! (You may also recall me style-stalking her in this blog post!) Now residing on Harbour Island in the Bahamas with her husband and their five children, India recently decided to start her own eponymous line of wares designed to be sold in the home with the intent to “deepen friendships, share stories, and build a strong, solid business for other women, in their own time, on their own terms.” What a shining example of friendship goals! It is so refreshing to see women encourage other women, and to hear it so eloquently stated is incredibly inspiring!
This lovely line evokes the proper British upbringing of India Hicks, while infusing a little laid-back Bahamian fun. Specifically, the appearance of her beloved lucky beetle, both emblazoned on the exterior of some of the accessories and subtly hidden in the interior lining of others, adds a fun, whimsical element to the line. And many of the items are perfectly priced to make fabulous gifts — the buttery-soft leather clutch with tassel zipper and the softly scented Wild Spiderlily fragrance are at the top of my wish list!
If you’d like to check out this unique collection, you can click here to visit Katie’s virtual shop. This link will be active through Sunday, May 24.
